Jofrid Sigviddottir is the second child of Sigvid Varinsson and Hedinfrid Jomarsdottir. Their mother died giving birth to the youngest child of Sigvid, Vigdis, her younger sister. Aside from her older sister Hallgerd, who just so happened to have married Svafar, her husband’s older brother, she has four younger siblings including Vigdis. Griotgard, Solmund, and Hosvir are her younger brothers. Aside from her siblings, her father took in a young boy that was around Solmund’s age named Skardi who was an orphan her father found.
Her family all lived within the long house her ancestors built with her grandfather, Varin, until she moved in with her husband, Gili, and her sister-wife and long-time childhood friend, Hallberta Thorstardottir. Hallberta became pregnant with their daughter, Hilde. Even though Hilde didn’t come from her own womb, she has always considered her as her own daughter. Hallberta, of course, made sure to make her feel included in raising Hilde.
